Treatment of Dyspepsia should start by looking at the causes, such as diet and lifestyle, which can be self-managed to ease heartburn. Alcohol, caffeine, fatty foods, rushed eating and stress can all contribute to indigestion and heart burn.
Medicines can be purchased that relieve the symptoms of dyspepsia, heartburn, indigestion, excess acid, nausea and flatulence (trapped wind). Talk to your pharmacist or medicine provider for advice on antacids and indigestion remedies.
Some basic steps you can take yourself to treat dyspepsia or heartburn; start by removing too much fatty of spicy foods from your diet; avoid rushed meals and meals eaten too quickly; reduce or eliminate caffeine from your diet, no tea or coffee; reduce smoking, or quit smoking completely... smoking can cause heartburn and dyspepsia; reduce alcohol intake or stop drinking alcohol; don't take medications on an empty stomake (unless advised to by your doctor, of course).
These basic diet changes and lifestyle decisions, which you can make yourself will all help to reduce the symptons of indigestion (dyspepsia) and may stop it altogether.
There are a number of over-the-counter medicines available to treat dyspepsia or heartburn; some work by neutralising the acid in your stomach and some work by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces when it digests food. Always tell your pharmacist or medicine supplier your symptoms of indigestion and heart burn to ensure you get the indigestion remedy that is right for you..
Although there is not much evidence of a direct link between heartburn, indigestion, dyspepsia and stress, it is important to remember that any measures that promote good general health will have a beneficial effect and may reduce or remove the symptoms of heartburn. So, it is important to eat a healthy diet, excercise frequently, lose wight if overweight for your height, asnd reduce the intake of caffeine and alcohol, and reduce or give up smoking. All of these can significantly improve your general health and so, may, contribute to a lessened occurance of dyspepsia.
Antacid liquids and antactid tablests are availble over-the-counter at your local pharmacist for heartburn, indigestion, and dyspepsia. These dyspepsia treatement remedies can work in different ways; some will neutralise the acid already present in your stomach and some will reduce the stomach's production of acid. Be sure to discuss your dispepsia treatment needs with your pharmacist to get the right heartburn treatment for yourself and your personal circumstances.
Dyspepsia (dispepsia) (from the Greek (Dys-), meaning hard or difficult, and (Pepsi), meaning digestion) refers to disorders of the stomach involving symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, pain, vomiting or general discomfort.
Many cases of dyspepsia are caused by stomach ulcers which may be diagnosed with a barium meal test or a gastroscopy. In some situations, for example, stomach ulcers, high levels of gastric acid may irritate the stomach lining and cause dyspeptic symptoms. Dyspepsia may also occur as a side effect from drugs treating other diseases.
Always seek professional mediacal help and advice from your doctor or pharmacist for any dyspepsia, indigestion and heartburn symptoms you are worried about. Disclaimer.
